The winter storm has ramped up, dropping heavy snow across northern regions of the state this evening.

Winter Storm Warnings and Winter Weather Advisories remain in place until around midday on Sunday. Snowfall rates at times may reach up to one inch per hour, which will reduce visibility and cause more travel issues.

Already the South Dakota Department of Transportation has reported numerous roads that are slippery and snow-covered.

Besides heavy snow, northwest winds are forecast to increase with gust near 35 to 45mph, creating some areas of blowing and drifting snow.
