Winter Returns for the Holiday

Winter Weather Alert shortly before 3:00pm CST, Sunday Afternoon.

Winter looks to return despite above normal temperatures this weekend.  Already Winter Weather Advisories and Winter Storm Watches are in effect for the southern regions of the state.

Starting with the southwest, a Winter Weather Advisory has been placed by the National Weather Service Office in Rapid City for 3:00am Tuesday morning until 6:00pm CST Tuesday evening.  A storm system move into the region will push precipitation into the area bring some accumulating snow by Tuesday.  Snow amounts in the advisory area look to be from one to three inches with some locally higher amounts around five inches.  The best risk of heavier snows in southwest, South Dakota look to be closer to the South Dakota/Nebraska border.

Winter Storm Watches are in effect for south-central and southeast, South Dakota on Tuesday for accumulating snow of four to six inches with some localized higher amounts.  The watch is in effect a little later in Tuesday night for the southeast, South Dakota.
