NORTHEAST, SOUTH DAKOTA - Storm damage close to Wetonka, South Dakota was surveyed by the National Weather Service in Aberdeen, South Dakota. Their finds found and confirmed that a tornado had touchdown near the little town in northeast, South Dakota during the evening hours on Saturday, July 4th.
The Grassland Hutterite Colony received the most damage from the tornado with large machine shop destroyed, a grain bin completely removed from its base and major damage to a feed mill.
Other damages at the site that saw significant damage were a 400 foot by 80 foot turkey barn, a trailer and other residential building.
The weather service gave the tornado an EF-2 rating with estimated peak winds of 115mph. The twister traveled just over two and half miles and had max width of 150 yards.
