On Monday afternoon, a thunderstorm created a quick spin up of a tornado over northern parts of Hamlin County near the town of Thomas. According to the National Weather Service Office in Aberdeen, the tornado was on the ground for about 15 minutes and travel about two miles. The maximum winds in the tornado was 80mph giving it a rating of an EF-0.
The twister started in a bean field about one mile east in Thomas and crossed over State Highway 22 doing damage to trees, outdoor lawn items and coming real close to a house. The tornado continued northeast doing damage to a corn field, trees, several outbuildings, a Quonset barn and a silo.
