Today winter weather caused issues on the roadway and brought the winter season back to South Dakota.  The image above from the South Dakota Highway Patrol's Facebook page showed law enforcement and emergency crews responding to crashes from hazardous roadways.

At 8:45 pm CST, the South Dakota Department of Transportation was reporting snow-covered and slippery conditions on Interstate 29 and Interstate 90 near the Sioux Falls area.  Towards the west in the Mitchell area, Interstate 90 was reporting scattered ice, snow=-covered and slippery conditions.  In the Brookings area, motorist are seeing light snow-covered roads with scattered slippery conditions on Interstate 29.  For the latest road conditions, please visit safetravelusa.com.

Snowfall reports from today have come in the highest in the Black Hills and into southeast, South Dakota.  This evening, Hill City report four inches of snow and in Madison, about three and a half inches was recorded.  Below are the snowfall reports from the National Weather Service before 8:45 pm CST this evening.
