Tornado Hits Burke

A tornado Tuesday evening caused damaged and injured two people in the town of 580 people in south-central, South Dakota.  Burke, South Dakota was the target of an EF-1 tornado that rapidly developed over the town.

According the National Weather Service damage survey, the tornado did significant damage to the city's center which included the local school, a civic center and other businesses to include a lumberyard.

The tornado had a peak winds of 110mph and a maximum width of 75 yards.  The small tornado touch down within the city and continued to track south of town for about 3.8 miles.

Two people were injured in the storm but the status of the injuries are unknown at this time.

Residents, volunteers, emergency personnel and business owners worked hard today on the clean up efforts.
