Snow has already been falling across western and central, South Dakota during the overnight hours.  4 miles northwest of Whitewood in Lawrence County has received 5.8 inches of snow since 6:00am MDT and downtown Rapid City has received 4.3 inches.  Above is a snapshot image of radar at 7:06pm CDT.  For the latest radar images, please visit out Radar Page.

Winter Storm Warnings are in effect for western and north-central, South Dakota for today and into the overnight hours.  Winter Weather Advisories are in effect for south-central, northeast and parts of east-central, South Dakota.  To get additional information about your alerts, visit our Alerts Page.

Above is the forecast snowfall amounts starting this morning and continuing into Friday.  The heaviest additional snows still looks to be over north-central, South Dakota where Gettysburg could received an additional eight to ten inches.

Besides the snow and rain, strong winds will be another factor during this evening.  Already this morning wind gust into the mid 30s have been reported.  This could create areas of blowing snow and reduce visibilities.
