A winter storm is forecast to impact the state as soon as this afternoon and continue into the overnight and Monday morning.
Blizzard Warnings are in effect for northeast, South Dakota for later tonight into Monday morning. Before the warning goes into effect, a Winter Weather Advisory has been posted for this afternoon.
Snow is forecast to move into the area bring 3 to 5 inches by Monday morning. Behind the cold front, strong northerly winds will cause areas of blowing snow, reduce visibility and dangerous wind chills.
Towards east-central, South Dakota; a Winter Weather Advisory has been placed from noon today until noon on Monday. Snow amounts in this area will be from 2 to 4 inches. Areas of blowing snow and some travel issues are expected by later this evening and into the overnight hours and Monday morning.
Out towards the west and southern half of the state. High Wind Warnings and Wind Advisories are in effect for this evening into Monday morning. Wind gust up to 60mph will be possible in the warning areas and up to 50mph in the advisory area.
As this storm system moves away, very cold temperatures and dangerous wind chill will push into the area. Wind Chill Watches are in effect for Tuesday evening into Wednesday as life threatening wind chill down to 60 below zero are possible!
