High Wind Warnings and Wind Advisories are in effect for the foot hills and northern regions of the Black Hills starting later tonight and continuing into early Sunday afternoon.
The northern hills and foot hills will see the highest gust with wind gusts up to 65mph is expected. This includes the Spearfish, Sturgis, Deadwood and Hill City regions.
A High Wind Warning means that conditions are occurring or will be occurring for strong powerful winds. These high winds may blow down large trees and damage roofs, small outbuildings, and signs. Power outages are possible. Travel could be difficult, especially for high profile vehicles. Strong winds can cause blowing snow or dust, reduced visibility, and flying debris.
Persons outdoors should watch for flying or falling objects that may injure you. If you are driving, be prepared for sudden wind gusts that can cause you to lose control of your vehicle, especially on open stretches, or as you approach the crest of hills. Also be alert for debris or dust blowing across the road.
For the central and southern foot hills, expected wind gust of 50mph later tonight and into Sunday morning. Wind Advisories are in effect for the area to include the Rapid City area.
