BLACK HILLS, SD - On Wednesday afternoon, fire authorities were dispatched to wildfire in the Black Elk Wilderness in central, Black Hills. The fire is located about a half mile southeast of Black Elk Peak and was reported between three to five acres this morning.
Authorities report that the fire did not sufficiently grew during the overnight and was 25 percent contained as of 11:30am MDT.
Multiple resources have been pulled to fight the fire to include three helicopters, about 40 firefighters, five fire trucks and several resource advisors.
The U.S. Forest Service has closed the Black Elk Peak Trail #9 and other trails in the area for the safety of firefighters and the public.
The cause of the fire was a lightning strike from Monday.
