EASTERN, SOUTH DAKOTA - Thunderstorms started to develop over the Deuel County area into Minnesota near Canby and Porter. These thunderstorms continued to grow and additional storms developed as the afternoon and evening went on.
Thunderstorm developed near the Brookings area by the evening hours bring large hail to mainly locations. In Elkton, the city saw Ping Pong Ball size hail (1.50 inches). That thunderstorm then moved into Minnesota.
Back towards the west, this thunderstorm near Nunda brought hail to the size of Quarters (1.00 inches) and Ping Pong Balls.
As these thunderstorms continued to move southward, large hail, the size larger than an apple (3.50 inches) was reported about five miles north of Sioux Falls.
Besides the hail, several large trees branches were blown down northwest of Rowena and on the southeast edge of Sioux Falls, a number of pine trees were uprooted from strong thunderstorm winds.
In far southeast, South Dakota, these thunderstorms brought wind damage northwest of Beresford where trees reported to be knocked down.
With all the severe weather that came with these storms, beneficial rains to the region. The Sioux Falls Airport reported 1.50 inches of rain during Thursday's events.
